Luminus Devices, renowned for its advanced illumination solutions, has recently unveiled its Gen2 XBT-3535 series. This groundbreaking addition to their extensive UV LED portfolio encompasses a broad spectrum of ultraviolet (UV) wavelengths, ranging from 265 nm to 340 nm. The launch significantly bolsters Luminus's position in the industry, showcasing one of the most diverse and comprehensive ranges of UV LED options currently available.

The Gen2 XBT-3535 series builds upon Luminus’s existing UVA and near-UV offerings, previously spanning 365 nm to 415 nm wavelengths. The new series notably expands into the UVC wavelength range, introducing the 265 nm variant alongside the already available 275 nm wavelength, both specifically tailored for air, water, and surface disinfection applications. A unique aspect of this series is the introduction of a lower power, cost-effective “Mini” version in 275 nm, designed to provide a 20 mW output at 150 mA.

Murali Kumar, Business Line Director at Luminus, emphasized the efficiency of the new wavelengths, stating, “What sets the 265 nm wavelength apart is its remarkable 56% improvement in disinfection efficiency compared to 280 nm, surpassing even the 22% increase achieved with 275 nm.” He further highlighted the series’ capability by adding, “Delivering an impressive output power of more than 60 mW at 500 mA, the XBT-3535 series outperforms its Gen 1, 275 nm predecessor, in both disinfection performance and cost-effectiveness ($/mW).”

In the UVB range, the Gen2 series introduces two new options: 285 nm and 308 nm. The 285 nm variant is designed to excel in applications such as horticulture and analytical instruments, delivering a performance that exceeds 85 mW at 500 mA. Meanwhile, the 308 nm option, available in the “Mini” version, is positioned as a cost-effective solution for phototherapy and horticulture, with a power output of over 30 mW at 150 mA.

The 340 nm wavelength, part of the XBT-3535 series, caters specifically to medical and analytical applications. It stands out with its powerful 90 mW output at 500 mA, showcasing the series’ versatility and advanced capability. Currently, the 265 nm, 275 nm, and 285 nm wavelengths are in production and readily available. Additionally, Luminus has begun accepting orders for the 308 nm and 340 nm variants, with production slated to commence in Q1, 2024.
