KYOCERA AVX Enhances Electronic Component Range with Advanced TWD HTMC Series Capacitor
KYOCERA AVX introduces a new 100mF/3V rating to its TWD High-Temp Max-Cap Series, offering unparalleled performance in extreme environments and positioning itself as a leader in advanced electronic components.

KYOCERA AVX, a leading global manufacturer of advanced electronic components, has recently expanded its TWD High-Temp Max-Cap (HTMC) Series with a new 100mF/3V rating, setting a new standard in the realm of wet tantalum capacitors. This series, known for delivering stable, high-reliability performance, is designed to operate in harsh, high-temperature environments up to 175°C, surpassing current Electric Double-Layer Capacitor (EDLC) supercapacitor specifications.
Initially launched in 2016 with two ratings, 25mF/10V and 50mF/6.3V, the TWD HTMC Series has been a significant contributor to technological advancement in industries such as industrial, oil & gas, defense, and avionics. These industries often encounter environmental hazards including mechanical shock, high-frequency vibration, and extreme temperatures. The capacitors are engineered to provide extremely high capacitance values, comparable to those of supercapacitors, along with stable, high-reliability, and long-lifetime performance.
The capacitors are manufactured using high-purity tantalum powders and feature KYOCERA AVX's established wet tantalum design. This includes a hermetically sealed welded tantalum can with a unique cathode system, enabling extraordinary CV/cc performance. They also come with an optional insulation sleeve. The capacitors exhibit rugged resistance to shock and vibration as per MIL-PRF-39006 standards and maintain stable electrical parameters over a wide temperature range, from -55°C to +175°C. The TWD HTMC Series stands out for its outstanding reliability, offering extended lifetimes of up to 10,000 hours at +105°C and rated voltage, and up to 2,000 hours at +175°C and rated voltage.
Allen Mayar, Global Product Manager at KYOCERA AVX, emphasized the company's commitment to quality and performance in harsh environments. "We are very pleased to expand on our field-proven TWD HTMC Series hermetically sealed and axial leaded wet tantalum capacitors," he said. "These capacitors are produced and qualified at our highly accredited facility in Lanskroun, Czech Republic, and deliver high-reliability long-lifetime performance and extremely high capacitance, comparable to that of supercapacitors, in harsh-environment applications with operating temperatures up to 175°C."
The expanded TWD HTMC Series now includes three ratings — 25mF/10V, 50mF/6.3V, and the new 100mF/3V, with capacitance tolerances of ±10% and ±20%. The series features standard DLA T4 cases with an optional insulating sleeve and offers two termination finishes: Sn/Pb (60/40) or RoHS-compliant pure matte tin. The capacitors are suitable for automatic mounting and soldering and are shipped in tray packs. The current lead time for the series is 10–14 weeks.
This latest development from KYOCERA AVX not only demonstrates the company's innovative edge in the electronic components sector but also solidifies its role as a trailblazer in providing solutions for applications that operate in extreme conditions. The TWD HTMC Series capacitors are poised to enhance the efficiency and reliability of critical technologies in various high-demand sectors, including avionics, defense, and oil & gas, marking a significant stride in electronic component engineering.
